Crane’s return of favor
Once upon a time, there lived an old man and an old woman. On his way back from a trip to town, the old man found something moving in the snow. "What is that?" The old man found a crane caught in a trap. The more it moved, the tighter the trap tightened, so the old man felt sorry for it. "Oh dear, poor thing. I'll let you go now. Be careful from now on." And so he helped the crane up, and it flew away towards the mountain. When he returned home, the old man told the old woman, "I helped the crane out of the trap just now. I did a good deed today." As he said this, he heard a knock on the door. "Who could it be?" the old woman asked, opening the front door, and a beautiful young woman was standing there. "I got lost in the snow. Could you please let me stay here for the night?" "Really? It's especially cold tonight. Come in." The young woman was delighted by his words and decided to stay there. From that day on, the young woman began to live in her grandfather's house. One day, the girl said, "Please let me weave a cloth. Please don't look into my room while I'm weaving." "I understand. Please weave a beautiful cloth." The woman continued weaving the next day and the next. On the third night, when the sound stopped, the girl came out with a roll of cloth. It was a very beautiful cloth that she had never seen before. This is called crane fabric. Please go to town and sell it. You will surely get a lot of money." The next day, the old man went to the town and walked around asking, "Do you want some crane fabric?" The fabric sold for a very high price and returned home happily. The next day, the girl started weaving again. Knock, knock, knock! After three days had passed, the old woman said to the old man, "How can they weave such beautiful cloth? Let's have a look." Forgetting that the girl had told them not to look, the two of them looked into the room. They saw a crane plucking its feathers and weaving a cloth. That night, the girl came out of the room with the fabric in hand and said, "Grandpa and Grandma, I am the crane you saved from a trap. I came to repay you for your kindness, but you saw me, so I can no longer stay here. I will never forget your kindness. Thank you for all you have done for me." Saying this, the girl spread her hands, turned into a crane, soared into the sky, and flew off towards the mountains.
